Song Company wins Sidney Myer Group Award for 2007

We are extremely excited to announce that The Song Company has won the Sidney Myer Group award for 2007. The Song Company shared the group accolade with Tasdance.

The Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards were created in 1984 by the Sidney Myer Fund to mark the 50th anniversary of the passing of Sidney Myer and to commemorate his life and cultural interests. The Awards are primarily intended to enhance the status of the performing arts in Australia and pay tribute to outstanding achievement in drama, comedy, dance, music, opera, circus and puppetry.

The award is one of the most prestigious in Australia and comes with a lovely bonus, additional funds that give the artists the ability to develop more programs and tour their outstanding existing programs.

Past winners have included some of this country’s great arts companies and individuals such as Stephen and David Page of Bangarra and Nikilali music respectively, Geoffrey Rush, Meryl Tankard, Neil Armfield and Sydney Dance Company.

‘We are extremely honoured to be included in such an incredible group of artists’ The Song Company’s General Manager Antony Jeffrey stated. ‘It’s just so wonderful to get this recognition, and as anyone in the arts could tell you, the award money is always gratefully received so a big thank you must be offered to the Sidney Myer foundation for the support they continue to show the arts.’
