“Our concert at Blacktown Performing Arts Centre as part of the Aurora Festival was approaching and the music I had been learning for the past 4 months was about to stand the test, or more correctly, my brain was about to be stretched! Performing this programme for one night only….couldn’t we do it again tomorrow [...]

Encounters: Musical Meetings between Australia and China – Queensland Conservatorium
Beautiful weather greeted us on our landing in Brisbane on May 7 which continued to keep our spirits sunny for the entire weekend. A little fatigue lingered with us on arrival as the singers and Roland, having just performed the challenging Les Murray ISCM program the night before in Blacktown, promptly moved on to the [...]

Singer Focus – Anna Fraser
In the beginning I was actually asked by Roland to come and sing for the group on the recommendation of Nicole Thomson. I had never approached the ensemble previously to request an audition as I had never considered I’d work for such a high-calibre vocal ensemble on a full time basis, as I had been pursing solo vocal work. I didn’t know a great deal about the ensemble initially and only realised the pace of the work and scope of the programs the Company presents when I had been presented with 2 hours of contrasting repertoire to prepare for the 2 auditions I was asked to sing at. A daunting task but a worthy challenge!

Waltzing to Orange
Our intern Ludwig Machicki, aged 19, arrived from Germany a few weeks ago to spend two months with us. We sent him to Orange with the company for the performance of Waltzing Matilda and asked him to write his impressions of his first trip out of Sydney.
2009 is a truly exceptional year.
So favourably aligned 25 years ago at the inception of the Song Company, the stars themselves are to be featured in a 25th Anniversary collaboration with our friend William Barton, the celebrated didgeridoo player. Kalkadunga Man will be presented all over Australia and overseas in 2009 and should send a powerful message about the future of music in this country in the new spirit of reconciliation.
