Farewell, Antony Jeffrey

On 31 March I step down as General Manager of the Song Company, and with the greatest pleasure welcome Karen Baker as my successor. Karen joined us from the Australia Council last October, and in that time we have become close colleagues and good friends. I won’t be disappearing altogether but will be around on a part time basis over the next few months to make sure there is a smooth transition.

Welcome, Karen Baker

It is with great enthusiasm that I step into the role of GM of one the finest vocal ensembles in the world. I would like to pay tribute and thanks to my predecessor, Antony Jeffrey AM, who gave the Song Company stability in a turbulent period and brought a wealth of knowledge which has benefited the Song Company no end.

Personally, he has been wonderfully generous to me with his time, his wisdom and his experience of this group and the wider arts sector as I have transitioned from the Australia Council last year. Congratulations, Ruth McCall

The wedding of Ruth Kilpatrick and Mungo McCall was held on Saturday, January 10 at All Souls Anglican Church in Leichhardt. The Song Company performed with the addition of former full-time soprano and friend Nicole Thomson. Needless to say, Ruth did not sing along except in the congregational songs!

Musical items were by Monteverdi and Palestrina, with texts taken from the Old Testament book of the Song of Songs, and there was also the premier of a new version of ‘Agnus Dei’ which Ruth had written for the occasion. At the reception Richard Black gave a warm speech on behalf of the Song Company, expressing his best wishes and acknowledging the significance of the Song Company in Ruth’s working and personal …
